Hello, 10 Months!

Yesterday, my twinsies waved goodbye to nine months. Well, at least my daughter did;  yes, she can wave bye bye and she even attempts to say bye bye.

So what’s new in their world?

My schedules isn’t as effective as when they were smaller.  They’ve become earlier risers, sometimes as early as 6 a.m.  They also are refusing to nap, but thank goodness they both continue to sleep through the night.

No updates in the teething world.  She still only has one and he has two little chompers.  She appears to be working on her second one but not much progress.

My baby girl enjoys dancing and picking on her big brother.  I never thought I’d see the day where it wasn’t a one man show.  He’s defending himself a lot more, sometimes a little too aggressive for my liking. His mode of attack is pinching.

The biggest news of all was crowning the walking champ. Though she was little, she was fierce; baby girl is the WALKING champ.  She started taking steps two weeks ago when her auntie came for a visit. She was taking two steps at a time; now she has learned to balance herself and often takes as many as 10 steps. I would say we have a walker.  With that said, I have lost the bet. My son didn’t walk first like I thought he would, although he was so good with the walker.  He walks around holding onto furniture but shows no real signs of independent walking.  However, he’s a speed crawler, so watch out.

Just two months left until we celebrate their first birthday.  I have figured out the theme…Tutus and Ties (bowties, that is). I am so excited, I can’t wait!!

Have a lovely day!

JUMPSUITS, Oh My!

image

image

The sun is shining again today after a week of rain. Yaaay! Hopefully, it will stay a while. A week would be wonderful, a birthday gift to me🙏

Wednesdays are normally reserved for posts about my big girl but she was just looking too stankin cute yesterday and Wednesday seems so so far away that I’m sharing her pics with you today!

Jumpsuits are among one of the current fashion trends.  Hopefully, I will snag something for myself soon, but until then, here’s Miss Jayla showing us how to rock this trend.

While taking pics, a lady walked by, she thought she was being sweet…

Lady:- Oh my goodness, she’s such a little cutie!

Jayla:- I’m not, I’m a big girl.

Lady:- Yes, you are a big girl.

Jayla:- Yes, I am.

Gotta love her 😉

National Arboretum

I love when hubby is off from work and we go out for a relaxing family day. Okay, with three under three maybe not a relaxing day, but it’s time spent together, so I’m happy.

I’m not exactly sure what I was expecting at this place.

I didn’t necessarily liked the route we were taking so during the drive I decided to google National Arboretum. Here’s what Wikipedia gave me: “An Arboretum in DC operated by the Department of Agriculture.”  Well, that’s very insightful.

At this point it didn’t matter as we were committed to this location because it’s after 1 p.m on a Friday in the nation’s Capital.

First we missed our turn because the GPS didn’t show the service road. As we entered the grounds we wondered if we were lost despite seeing the little tiny sign that read National Arboretum. It looked more of an abandoned place with lots of overgrown trees and windy roads.

Eventually we found the main building. We enjoyed a picnic of leftovers that consisted of baked jerk chicken, brussel sprouts and white rice as our oldest ran around taking to everyone like she normally does.

We missed all the days activities, they were closing at 4 p.m, the gardens weren’t in bloom and the memory card was almost full. You think by now I would learn to do my research and prep before my little adventures but I guess that’s part of the fun 😉

It’s rare that hubby smiles, he actually smiled twice! I think he was enjoying family time.

TRYING To Yell Less; More “I’m Disappointed With That Bad Behavior”

Okay, sooo I just yelled as I typed the title. Oops, like I said, I’m trying.

My daughter is like any typical two-year old. She has moments when she listens, luckily most of the time. Don’t get me wrong, she also has those moments where she digs in even when she knows it’s an inappropriate behavior, like she thinks she’ll win the battle.

She HATES it when I say I’m disappointed with her for something she said or did. So I’m learning to use that to my advantage. Whenever I tell her I’m disappointed, she then spends the next few minutes trying to make me happy. Sometimes she does something silly to make me laugh and instantly changes things. What can you do but laugh? They know what they’re doing.

On the flip side, she LOVES when I say, “I’m so proud of you”. She’ll let any and everyone in the room know that I am proud of her. By the way, she mastered spelling her name at 2 years old. 👏👏 Now we just have to master letter recognition which we’ve been working on lately.

I am so proud of my little ray of sunshine. She is my entertainment when things are chaotic at the homestead. I honestly don’t know what my days would be without her. She’s been asking to go to school A LOT lately. I don’t know if I’m ready. I’m definitely NOT ready even though I know it will aid in her social development. Can she stay my little baby girl for just a little while longer?

How do you handle it when your little ones have you standing on the edge of the cliff?

Enjoy your evening, it’s a gloomy and cold (high 63°) one here 😕

If the start of our adventure was any indication of how my day would end, I can tell you now it couldn’t be good.

The kids wouldn’t nap, of course, but as soon as they hit the car seat they were knocked out. I contemplated driving around just to let them sleep, but decided after the effort of prepping to be in the city, we were going to the city.

During the drive I saw a sign for Oxon Hill Farm and decided to be spontaneous. Mentally I wasn’t ready for Washington, DC nor what would come next for that matter.

The kids weren’t even out the car when my two-year old said “I HAVE TO PEE” I didn’t know the conditions of the restrooms and I didn’t know if she would even make it to the restroom. So what did I do? Don’t judge me. I let her pee at the car 🙊🙈🙉 What would you do?

Anyway, leave it to me to show up after all the kids’ activities ended. Hey, it was a spur of the moment thing. We had just under two hours before closing. Plenty of time right?

Ready for school?

Twins perhaps?

Checking out the goats from a distance. My little scary cat.
image

image

The animals were settling in for the night. Many of them hid in the comfort of their home waiting for dinner.

This little piggy was not up for company. He wanted us gone so he gave us its rear end while it handled business.

image

Being on the farm reminded me of my early years. We lived in rural Jamaica, not the beaches and lavish homes you see depicted. We had cows, goats and chickens at one time or another. Can you imagine me taking the goats to the fields before heading off to school? Yeah…I did that several times. I wasn’t always prissy, you know.

The real question now is could I survive a day on a farm? That’s a whole other issue.

Have a great weekend.

Yes…There Are Colors Other Than BLUE

Two months ago I wrote a post where the only color that existed in my daughter’s world was BLUE.

It was such a frustrating task. Everyone shied away from the challenge. It just didn’t make sense why she couldn’t grasp colors. They would say she’ll get it.

My mother-in-law would tease that it’s because I don’t embrace what I term school yard colors around my house. I REALLY dislike those bright colored toys. If it was up to me all their toys would be wood or white but hubby won’t go for that.

I am proud to say my big girl has mastered the color wheel…more or less. She gets confused sometimes but her world now includes red, yellow, green, pink, purple and white.

Our walks to the park is so colorful now that she’s mastered her colors. 👏👏

She picks flowers…sometimes she pulls the entire plant🙈

image

Her imagination is also expanding.  She told her brother it’s chocolate and he wanted to check it out himself 😀

image

As if we didn’t get enough after a close call with the geese she wanted to feed the ducks.
image

I wish we had food for them I told her. I don’t know why I said that because she forgets nothing! Now that’s one more thing she’ll be asking me if I have in my bag before our park runs.

The walk home from the park was just as interesting. It was funny watching the kids squabble over cheese puffs.  When the twins dropped one, big sister would quickly grab it and eat it, but only after checking for any drool of course 😉

Happy kid, happy mama 😉

We live in a colorful world now and I LOVE it!

Go Big Girl 👏👏

PS– Nelle slept the entire time, that’s why she wasn’t in any pics. A girl needs her beauty rest I suppose 😘

Maymont Park

My hubby is from Richmond, VA. We are getting ready to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary, yet we’ve NEVER visited a park during our many trips home.  All that will change this year though.

The first stop was Maymont Park.  Everything was beautiful. The deeper we walked into the garden, the more relaxing it was.  The perfect day for an afternoon stroll.

image

image

image

Maymont Park is nestled in the heart of Richmond, about ten minutes from the heart of downtown. It is the perfect venue for weddings, graduation parties, or an afternoon family picnic. There’s also a petting farm to occupy your little ones. You will not be disappointed by Maymont’s beauty.

image

I must warn my fellow stroller toting mamas. The Japanese and Italian gardens are not stroller friendly. I suggest you use your baby carriers when you visit or unless your hubby doesn’t mind carrying the stroller.

I hope viewing these pics you can relax for a few minutes and appreciate what nature has to offer.

Soul Sista

Yesterday evening I met the most AMAZING little soul.  I ran out to get a swimsuit for our impending trip to Ocean City.  Here I was perusing the home department at HomeGoods/ TJ Maxx store when our eyes locked on these beautiful white flower planterimage

The picture does no justice.

I checked the price and said not meant for me.  I checked out other flower pots while she pondered.  We joked about the prices at $99 saying…$79…better yet $59.  She was still pondering.  I said to her nothing haunts us like the things we don’t buy and she smiled.

Then our conversation turned to PARIS. Well, buckle your seats honey. I was in for a treat. If you don’t know already, I am OBSESSED with ALL things Paris. Ever since I was a little girl Paris have been at the top of my list. I still haven’t visited, I can only dream of the experience she had. OOH LA LA!

She spent 90 days, yes NOT 9 but 90 days in Paris. I clutched my heart. I myself had to confirm she did in fact say 90 days!! Her son surprised her with an all expense paid trip for her birthday. What an amazing son! Batman are you paying attention? Lol

She traveled alone. I can only imagine what leisure she had. Not attending to anyone’s needs but her own for three whole months! Again I can only dream. During her extended stay, she visited nine different countries including

Other things discussed during our almost two hour conversation was our love for Hawaii, ballroom dancing, party planning and just our overall love of adventure.

We kept saying goodbye but neither of us would walk away. We finally said our good byes when these teal party decor caught my eye. She told me she was decorating her room with teal, deep chocolate brown and ivory. She also encouraged me to buy it all. Lol I rationalized it by saying well its my birthday in three weeks👅 Hubby it’s not my fault 😉

Talking to her was like seeing into my soul. She had such spunk. Such tenacity. Such grace. She wants to learn French. She said you should see me when I cleaned up honey. Oh I clean up! I don’t dress like an old lady. There’ll be plenty of time for that. Lol

Ms. Ann it was my ABSOLUTE pleasure meeting you.  Such a young soul at the tender age of 71. I hope one day through my experiences I can motivate someone to grab life and just LIVE honey.

image

Sorry for taking up so much of your time but she has left such an imprint on my heart. My soul sister. I will forever be thinking of this little lady and pondering what adventures she’s undertaking.

If you made it to the end, thanks for reading.

Special thanks to the family of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

I hope you have a great Memorial Day weekend.

HELLO SUMMER….what adventures will you take?

Are You Kidding Me?

Okay I SERIOUSLY need one of those time machines to take me back to my squishy little (well not so little) newborns being snuggled in my arms in my hospital bed with the nurses at my beck and call.

Three days ago my son climbed three flights of steps.  It happened on my watch.  I was washing dishes/bottles like I’m ALWAYS doing when hubby called me hysterically.  I thought he was just calling me like always.  About a minute or two later I walked in and was in shock.

Today, on my clock AGAIN he started climbing the steps after his big sister.  This time I was watching.  I wanted to see how far he could go.  He completed 10 of 13 stairs.  Little sis decided she wanted in on the fun.  It took a few minutes but she completed EVERY LAST ONE!!

I really need gates but I really hope someone has a coupon or a good sale.

I hope you have a great day I’m sure yours will be a little bit calmer than mine.  I would say it’s almost the weekend but I’m a stay at home mama.

A Little Retail Therapy

Well, it was more of a return day even though big girl did a lot of window shopping.

She’s the best big sister. She picked out clothes for her brother and sister.

I think Batman will like this mommy.  Nelle Nelle will like this she said.

image

image

She picked up a beach towel for herself.  She is obsessed with all things beach. I may or may not be the reason. Remember, at Christmas she asked Santa Claus for a vacation. 🙈

image

image

She struck a few poses before chasing birds and geese before our play ended abruptly when she saw a yellow jacket.

image

image

We headed to the next store. You know its bad when your two year old says…wait for it “This bag is big like yours mommy”

She barely made it into the house before…

image

I think she had a good day 😀
